Jaipur Reimagined by Angela Aujla

From $80.00

The story of this artwork began with a photograph I took across the bustling street from the incredible Hawa Mahal (Wind Palace) while travelling in Jaipur a few years ago. I digitally embellished the photograph, and added in collage elements of the Indian textile patterns and postal elements to create the feeling of a vintage postcard. Historically, as well as today, Jaipur is known for its elephants — they loom large over the rickshaws and bicycles as they pace regally down the streets. I digitally painted and drew over this elephant, thinking about the time I did that in real life at an elephant sanctuary in Jaipur. I remember the elephant I painted, Shaku, seemed to love the feeling of being painted with the bristly brush, and even leaned into it! I’ve printed this on matte fine art paper, which is archival quality with archival inks.
