Paneet Singh – Playwright

Paneet Singh is a Punjabi-Sikh playwright and filmmaker whose work is largely inspired and informed by Sikh and South Asian cultures and history. His two stageplays have received acclaim: The Undocumented Trial of William C. Hopkinson has sold out every performance since its 2016 premiere, and the critically-acclaimed A Vancouver Guldasta was an honourable mention in “The Best of Vancouver Theatre in 2018” by Vancouver Presents. Paneet was also picked as one of 2018’s “most exciting fresh faces to watch” and a "major player" in Vancouver's South Asian Theatre community in 2019 by Colin Thomas.

Andy Kalirai – Actor & Playwright

Andy Kalirai has been passionately working away at his craft for many years and is proud to now use his voice to tell the stories of the people he grew up with.  Some of his performances include Guards At The Taj (Pick of The Fringe), All’s Well That Ends Well (Bard on the Beach), and The Undocumented Trial of William C. Hopkinson (South Asian Arts Society).

Rami Kahlon - Actor

Rami Kahlon is an actor based in Vancouver, British Columbia. For the past ten years, she has worked in leading and supporting roles for film, television, and theatre. Her most recent acting work includes a supporting role opposite Peter Dinklage in the feature film American Dreamer and a leading role in the touring production of The Troll Grandfather (Axis Theatre). She is overjoyed to be working closely with her community for the Monsoon Festival's adaptation of Mirza-Sahiban.

Arkie Kandola - Actor

Canadian/British actor Arkie Kandola is well known for his extensive work portraying a diverse range of characters on both the big and small screen. Notable television credits include fan favourite Prison Break, Marvel’s Hellstrom and the Jordan Peele produced reboot Twilight Zone. Arkie is set to be seen this summer in Stephen Spielberg’s Amblin production titled Easter Sunday starring Jo Koy which is ets for release in theatres August 5, 2022.

Panthea Vatandoost – Director

Panthea is an Iranian actor, writer, producer, and director for film and theatre. She is the founder and Managing Artistic Director of Medusa Theatre Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and producing works that engage with the immigrant and refugee community, with a focus on MENAT voices. Panthea has the honour of serving as treasurer on the board of The Only Animal Theatre Company as well as co-chair on the UBCP/ACTRA BIPOC Committee. Some of her most recent credits include: Echoes From Far Away Cities with Blackout Arts Society (actor), A Cultural Celebration - MENAT Style! With Medusa Theatre Society and Rumble Theatre (creator, director, actor), ‘ قرار / Date Night’ with Rumble Theatre (writer, performer).

About Dooja Ghar (The Other House)

Dooja Ghar (The Other House) is a new site-specific play that is an interpretation of Mirza-Sahiban by Pilu, which is one of the popular tragic romance stories of Punjab.

The Punjabi folktale Mirza-Sahiban has been told and re-told, over and over again for hundreds of years. Mirza, the valiant warrior, defying all odds and conventions, saves his lover-in-distress, Sahiban from a forced marriage on the day of her wedding, only to be tragically betrayed by her in the end.

But, what if we told you that there's a version of this story that's much closer to home than you think?
