KRYSTAL KIRAN was born and raised in the Okanagan Valley. Her journey with dance began at the age of three with studying ballet, jazz, tap, musical theatre and contemporary dance at her hometown dance studio. On yearly family visits to Kolkata (India), she studied the classical Indian dance form of Kathak, as well as Bhangra, the cultural folk dance of her family’s region of Punjab, India.
As a performer, Krystal made her Broadway debut at the age of nineteen in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of ‘Bombay Dreams’ in New York City. Additional select theatre credits include the world premiere productions of ‘Lord of the Rings’ (directed by Tony award winner Matthew Warchus) and ‘Monsoon Wedding’ (directed by Mira Nair), two seasons at the Shaw Festival (“Of Marriage & Men”, “The Orchard (After Chekhov)”, “Horse & His Boy”, and “Brigadoon”), ‘West Side Story’ at Citadel Theatre, and a variety of other regional theatre. As a singer, Krystal toured internationally in arenas with Oscar and Grammy Award Winning composer, AR Rahman on his ‘Jai Ho World Tour’. She has performed in a variety of film and television projects including the film version of the hit musical ‘Hairspray’ dancing alongside John Travolta.
As a director, writer and producer, Krystal created and performed in the BravoFACT-commissioned short film “Thy Beauty’s Doom - In Memory of Maple Batalia” available on YouTube, further establishing the Maple Batalia Memorial Scholarship for the Arts at Emily Carr University in partnership with the Batalia Family.
As a choreographer, Krystal has choreographed commercials and has assisted on films such as ‘Suicide Squad’ and the ‘Love Guru.’ Prior to the shutdown of theatre, Krystal assistant choreographed, culturally consulted and performed in the stage adaptation of Gurinder Chadha’s hit film ‘Bend it like Beckham’ in Toronto. As a dance/arts educator, she has been a guest teacher at the Joffrey Ballet (NYC), Steps on Broadway (NYC), Pineapple Studios (London), Performance EAD (Madrid), and Future School of the Performing Arts (Mumbai). She has also been an educator with several different arts organizations and fitness/dance studios, creating classes and curating courses such as “Art for Social Justice” with VIBE Arts at inner city schools in Toronto.
An honorary graduate of the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, Krystal holds a specialized diploma in Musical Theatre is a registered yoga, meditation and Pilates teacher. She is passionate about sharing her expertise and knowledge in holistic settings, particularly with youth.
