Monsoon Festival's FREE community-based development workshops are excellent opportunities to immerse yourself into the artistic process. Learn valuable skills from accomplished industry professionals in areas including (but not limited to) script analysis, playwriting, acting, and music composition. Our workshops are a vital component of the Monsoon Festival of Performing Arts.
In this workshop, participants will explore the question: What makes dialogue interesting? This workshop, led by comedic playwright Zahida Rahemtulla (The Wrong Bashir, The Frontliners) uses improv and in-class exercises to understand how conflict, pace, and character work together to make dialogue compelling and funny. We will look at examples from plays, sketch, and film to understand how writers set up intrigue, suspense, and subtext. Participants will have a chance to write new scenes or apply tools to existing works-in-progress.
