Unlike vocations such as accounting or practicing medicine, being an artist is anything but a linear, certain path. In addition to creating great art, you need to focus on yourself as a business: YOU and the art you produce are your products. To be successful, you need to produce great art, but you also need to ensure you are skilled at the business of art. This workshop will focus on the ways in which business acumen, leadership and daily practices can be the difference between material success as an artist and ongoing financial struggle and frustration. It's a workshop that will give you some sound advice so that you can lean into your artistic dreams without having to sacrifice your rent budget.
Leena Manro Bio
Leena Manro is an award-winning writer and director and the Co-Founder of All Purpose Creative Inc; a creative agency located in Vancouver BC. Leena's been directing corporate / commercial videos for the past 8 years with All Purpose Creative Inc, where she works as Vice-President of Strategy and Storytelling. She’s directed more than 100 narrative pieces, and well over 300 non-narrative videos for enterprise clients such as IBM, Modo, Aisle and Telus. Many of her videos have won awards in corporate circles and are likened to "short films" with storytelling at the heart. Her projects are vast and include comedic, dramatic, live action, animation and documentary style. Leena has tremendous experience working on tight deadlines with small crews and on little budget, and being able to create stories that resonate, win awards, and continue to win All Purpose millions of dollars of client business.
At All Purpose, as often happens with founders, Leena wears many hats. In addition to leading the media team and creative production of videos, Leena co-manages the business operations, business development, HR and Culture initiatives. Prior to all this, Leena was a lawyer, then an actress, writer, comedian. She's found a balance between material success and artistic pursuits so that life as an artist doesn't have to be daily struggle.
